"CrossFit is for everybody. I had hangups about what I thought it was but now I'm a completely different person."
I started CrossFit for health reasons; I had high blood pressure and was over weight. My family is unhealthy as well with high blood pressure, weight issues, and all kinds of other things. One weekend I was over at their house and was helping sort medicine and I just thought to myself this is going to be me in 20 years if I don’t do something about it.
I had a lot of reservations about CrossFit at first but I won a gift card to a free membership and my friend at work was a member. I had said to him ‘oh well girls like me don’t do CrossFit so I’m going to give this to someone else’ and he pushed me to come in. He said ‘how do you know if you’ve never stepped foot in the door,’ so I did and I’ve never looked back.
When I started CrossFit I was 42% body fat and now I am 28% body fat which is very close to my goal. I have more energy now, I consider myself an athlete and at 43 I’m fitter than I’ve ever been. Now 80% of the reason I come in is the community. I am able to wake up 6 days a week and get in here because of the people. If I don’t, I know someone’s going to text me and ask me where I am. It means so much to have people who are there for you in your journey. CrossFit has let me know I am an athlete and when I come in here I know I am getting better.
