"I know I have accomplished something good everyday"
I started CrossFit for a few reasons. I had been working out on my own but I didn’t really know what I was doing so I wanted some structure. I also saw the gymnastics class and it looked like so much fun so I really wanted to try it.
I had some doubt at the beginning. I thought well why do I need to pay this much money if I can workout for free at the company gym. I soon learned there’s such a huge difference. CFK has transformed me in many ways: I’ve gotten stronger, I have more endurance, and I have built so many strong friendships. Physically I’m stronger than I’ve ever been even after seven years and I’m a lot older. I’ve hit a personal goal of running a 5K in under 25 minutes (24:40 with Mary’s coaching). I can go upside down on the parallel bars without crying. Mentally I’ve also gotten stronger. I’ve learned how to interact better with other people, how to listen first, how to focus on the big issues because the smaller ones will wait. I’ve become so much more self-aware! I can repeat the same lift over and over again with little frustration because I know that I’m aiming for better technique, not necessarily heavier weights. It’s about moving smarter and better. I am humbled and inspired daily by watching my fellow-athletes.
